Illustrated by Sarah Soh (double mega talented!!)
For ages 7+
About the book
🌱Readers young and old, who love illustrated fiction or graphic novels will very much enjoy this debut new series from LA-based creator Sarah Soh. With an animé-esq style, the illustrations are electrifying throughout.
🌱Glasses-wearing, inventing-obsessed Juniper Mae is a young girl living in Tykotech City with her father and grandpa. She keeps herself to herself, but comes alive with every new creation. Tykotech City is powered by an energy source called ‘The Core’, but oddly enough there have been more and more mysterious powercuts happening lately… Outside the city walls is dense forest filled with ferocious beasts (or so folk say).
🌱Taking to the skies one night with a new jet pack invention on her back, Juniper suffers a technical malfunction and ends up landing by parachute in the forest… uh-oh, what about the beasts? In a story of ‘not everything is what it seems’ the reader is delighted with some very cute turtle-like mini-characters called the tama-tamas who come to Juniper’s aid, explain to her the legends of the human Guardian Knights from the city who once stood unified with the forest creatures to keep everyone safe. Now, humans are feared. Forest creatures are feared. The Core is failing. Juniper feels a surge of honour to serve and protect, so creates her most impressive invention yet.
🌱Some children are so happy to be focused on their passions they forget there’s a big world out there with some wonderful friendships and discoveries to make. This is a heroine in the making with a big heart and lots of courage.
🌱For fans of the Brownstone Mysteries series by Joe Todd-Stanton, or the Hilda series by Luke Pearson. Easily reread time and again. The first in an epic 6 sci-fi graphic novel book series - book 2 coming Spring 2024!!
