Book Review: It Fell from the Sky by The Fan Brothers (Frances Lincoln)

For ages 4+

My all time favourite picture book creators are The Fan Brothers. I love all their books, from 'The Night Gardener' to 'The Barnabus Project'... and their latest creation 'It Fell From the Sky' truly amazes!

A great book for young minds to let their imagination wander as they put themselves in the shoes of some the less obvious cuddly and cute main characters you might find in books for children. Here we have a beetle, a walking stick, a lady bug, a spider, a lunar moth and more to marvel at through some truly stunning black and white illustrations. I personally collect any books by The Fan Brothers as they are children's books that can be very much enjoyed by adults too.

About the story

One Thursday a wondrous and colourful object falls from the sky. It brings the seemingly dull and lifeless local small creature community together as they try to solve the mystery of the 'most amazing thing they had ever seen'. There are all sorts of suggestions.... a comet, a crysalis, perhaps it's even a gumdrop...

On Friday the 'crafty Spider' dupes everyone saying the beautiful object fell into his web and then claims ownership! He then comes up with a plan to charge entry to a new 'WonderVille' exhibition to view it! All goes to plan until the 'Unexpected Disaster'... a five-legged creature (a young child's hand) appears from the sky and snatches the object away.

As the weeks go by, whilst staring at the ever giving stars, the Spider realises his selfish ways. He spins webs amongst the tall flowers, and lo and behold more unusual objects fall from the sky and are trapped... he curates his new great exhibition much to the delight of everyone in the community - an eye popping colourful double page spread.
